The Nintendo Switch 2 has launched its first major firmware update, update 21.0.0, and although it lacks anything totally revolutionary, there are numerous user experience upgrades to be looking forward to.

Updated Title Badges Offer Easy Recognition

Among the prominent improvements involves new icons that appear above a physical title, identifying whether that title is an original Nintendo Switch version, new Switch, or downloadable copy.

Improved Player Finding and Voice Chat Options

When finding users to send a friend request, the Locate Gamers You've Met setting under Friend Requests now incorporates users you've communicated with in your buddies' voice channels.

For Nintendo Switch 2 Pro Controller users, a fresh fast-response sound setting is added, allowing you to choose between “Stable” or “Low Latency” modes.

Faster Audio will reduce response time relative to “Stable” but may be more susceptible to issues in various untethered setups.

Digital Title Data Installation Improvement

An additional significant update allows you to install content for a virtual game card if the “Use Online License” setting is disabled.

This setting is found in the Menu of a virtual game card when opened via Downloadable Content from the console interface.

  • Screen settings: High Dynamic Range has been retitled to “System Screen’s HDR Output,” and screen size adjustment is simpler to adjust.
  • Alerts improvements: The option "Platinum Point Notification” has been retitled to "Nintendo Switch Online Notification."
  • System features: Charging control offers “Stop Charging Around 80-90%” instead of the old “Stop Charging Around 90%” feature.
  • Regional options: Thai and Poland's language have been introduced to the list of offered locales, but they will only be usable in software that include the respective language.
  • Overall stability enhancements to boost the player's interaction.
